What Is Ratio Christi?

Ratio Christi means "Reason of Christ" in Latin. That's another way of saying that reason and faith work together, they are not polar opposites. At UM-Dearborn and our three other Dearborn-Detroit locations, Ratio Christi is a Christian club that that welcomes doubts and hard questions. It's designed for all college and university students plus faculty and staff (and high school students!) with a thirst for spiritual truth found not only in scripture but also in the sciences, plus meaning and purpose viewed through the lenses of reason and faith combined, which is also called "apologetics." 

What Does Ratio Christi Do?

During the school year our club meets weekly on campus to explore and discuss hard questions concerning the biblical Christian faith and other belief systems. We believe you can have a well-reasoned and confident faith, and you should. "Blind faith is lame," we say.

We want to stimulate serious consideration of:
• Truth and meaning
• Science and faith
• Logic and philosophy
• Purpose and order
• Beauty and hope
• Love and morality

• Sex and marriage
• Joy and happiness
• Scripture and divine revelation
• Epistemology and intelligibility
• Natural Law and history

These all exist, either in the seen or the unseen realms. They comprise the tapestry of reality and the human experience. They govern and drive our lives, whether we are religious or not, and whether or not we are conscious of them. As an organization, and as a local club, we affirm biblical revelation as necessary to properly understand and employ all other kinds of truth. Through the art of good thinking, Bible study, reflection, and engaging group discussion, God and his truth are knowable to us as rational and spiritual beings. This is what makes humanness wonderful.

What Do We Believe?

You can find the Ratio Christi Statement of Faith here. We welcome differing opinions, doubters, skeptics, and people from other faiths. The statement of faith simply describes the beliefs held in common by our staff and officers.
