GOD Loves Science...and YOU!
.
We are UM-Dearborn's "Thoughtful Christianity Club". We call it this because we believe we can reason about faith and have intelligent discussions about religious beliefs. We also think of ourselves as a Great Thinkers Club (like C.S. Lewis), a Reason + Faith Club, a GOD Club, a Revelation Club, a Bible Discovery Club, a Meaning and Purpose Club, a Theology and Philosophy Club, an Encountering Jesus Club, and yes, a Christian Apologetics Club. Apologetics is the discipline of applying reason to questions of faith. Our fall theme is Faith and Science, how they are complementary. See the Weekly Schedule of Topics page.
Ratio Christi is Latin for ‘The Reason of Christ’, it is a global movement within academia that equips university students and faculty to give historical, philosophical, and scientific reasons for Christianity.

This fall we will have multiple meetings per week on campus. Our main two meetings will be back-to-back on THURSDAYS, 1) from 12:30-1:45, and then 2) immediately after that (2-3:15 pm), often in UC 1225 or 1227 but sometimes other rooms such as CASL 1018. There will also be 6 small group Bible- and Book-Studies per week, Monday through Thursday (see the Weekly Small Groups page for those details). AND there are Social Events. See the Master Calendar and Weekly Schedule of Topics tabs to know about everything. There's even a featured videos tab to showcase some of our current favs. Below are links to two short but great vids that we think capture the essential DNA of our club, give them a watch.
Recent Talk: Do We Understand Evolution? Addressing Common Misconceptions
Zenon Sommers delivered this talk who is our own RC Assistant Director and Grad from UM-Dearborn. He is a 2022 grad from UM-Dearborn who dual-majored in biology and psychology.
Central to the study of biology is the idea of evolution, which holds that the diversity of living species is due primarily to natural selection operating on naturally occurring genetic variation. Though this idea is now widely taught and applied, most people still understand it only through fuzzy recollections of caricatures and cartoons. We will discuss common misconceptions about evolution, identifying nuances of the claims made by evolutionary biology, the balance of available evidence, and the relationship between evolution and religion that are often overlooked in popular discourse on the subject.
What Good is Christianity? (click)
We approach subjects with a bit more of an intellectual approach than other Christian clubs, and we love hard questions. It also means that we are eclectic, and we cover a lot of different kinds of subjects in our weekly campus meetings, in a combined lecture and discussion format. Sometimes our own students and staff are the presenters. Other times we bring in outside speakers such as local clergy or specialists from various organizations such as the Leadership Institute and our very own Ratio Christi and the University of Michigan.
So, are you a current UMD student or about to become one? Or are you faculty or staff? Then we're here for you. If you are already a Christian, or a Muslim, a Jew, a Hindu, an atheist or agnostic, or if you're not sure exactly what you believe, our club might be a perfect fit for you. We exist uniquely to explore the intersection of faith with your God-given reason, your heart and your mind together. Through this intersection, we believe It is Possible to Know God, and we should.
Everyone has beliefs. Beliefs about God (positive or negative), origins, truth, meaning, morality, purpose, and the "good life", etc. Maybe you grew up with beliefs that you now doubt, or have even abandoned. That’s pretty common. Whatever you currently believe, we welcome you into our community. In each weekly meeting we discuss and consider one another's beliefs in a friendly way and at face value, mixed with a healthy dose of divine revelation, philosophy, science, logic, lived experience, and common sense. The prevailing skepticism of most universities treats faith and reason as polar opposites, so most classes at UMD are not going to help you integrate them. But we will.
