UM-Dearborn has a Religion
As a satellite campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, UM-D is one of thousands of secular universities in the U.S. and worldwide that have many things in common, noble and ignoble. Institutional disdain for supernatural religion is one of them, an irony of the first order. We say that because universities were born in a religious milieu and were invented by Christians be-cause of Christianity in early 13th-century Europe. (Today people call them the "dark ages", but they were not.) Universities were first established because of the widespread belief that God's creation is ordered and intelligible to us humans who are endowed with reason other God-given faculties of discovery, and intellectual pursuits were seen as glorifying to God. But now God and any talk of miracles is excluded from them, disallowed and disparaged. But that does not mean that they have no religion at all if religion is simply defined as a belief system. Philosophies and ideologies are belief systems too, even if God and divine revelation are rejected from them. UM-Dearborn and today's secular universities have a staunch commitment to philosophical naturalism.

What is Ratio Christi?
Ratio Christi means "Reason of Christ" as in Reasons for Christianity. At UM-Dearborn and its other Detroit-area locations, it is a club designed for college and university students with a thirst for truth, meaning, and purpose through the lens of reason and revelation, which is also called the art and science of "apologetics."
Last year our particular theme was "Why God Matters", which is not going away this year. Our ongoing and over-arching theme can also be captured in the Greek word Logos/Λόγος (lah-gahs or low-gahs), which means the logic, order, and harmony of everything. In the Gospel of John 1:1 and 14 it refers to Jesus.
What does Ratio Christi do?
We will meet multiple times weekly to in various numbers and locations to explore and discuss hard questions concerning the biblical Christian faith and other belief systems. We believe you can have a well-reasoned and confident faith, and you should. "Blind faith is lame," we say.

These all exist, either in the seen or the unseen realms. They comprise the tapestry of reality and the human experience. They govern and drive our lives, whether we are religious or not, and whether or not we are conscious of them.
As an organization, and as a local club, we affirm biblical revelation as necessary to properly understand and employ all other kinds of truth. Through the art of good thinking, Bible study, reflection, and engaging group discussion, God and his truth are knowable to us as rational and spiritual beings. This is what makes humanness wonderful.
